Overview

The Druk Path Trek offers an intimate six-day journey through Bhutan’s high-altitude wilderness, connecting the historic valleys of Paro and Thimphu. This moderate route takes you across windswept passes, past shimmering alpine lakes, and beside ancient monasteries that have stood for centuries. With a licensed local guide leading the way, you will experience a side of Bhutan few visitors see—quiet, remote, and deeply spiritual. Each day reveals new panoramas of the eastern Himalayas, while the evenings bring the warmth of campfires and the simple hospitality of mountain tea houses.

This trek is more than a physical challenge; it is a cultural passage through the heart of Bhutan’s living traditions. You will walk paths once used by monks and traders, encounter prayer flags fluttering over ridges, and have time to reflect on the profound stillness of the landscape. The Sustainable Development Fee you pay directly supports conservation and community projects, ensuring your journey leaves a positive footprint. Every step reinforces the country’s commitment to sustainable tourism and the preservation of its unique heritage.

For those seeking to extend your adventure, consider visiting the nearby Paro Taktsang—the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery—before or after the trek. A day trip to the serene Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, is also highly recommended. In Thimphu, explore the majestic Tashichho Dzong and the weekend market, where artisans sell handwoven textiles and traditional crafts. These nearby sites enrich your understanding of Bhutan’s spiritual and cultural fabric, making your Druk Path experience truly complete.

Day-by-day itinerary

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your licensed local guide will meet you and drive directly to Thimphu, the capital city. This transfer allows you to begin acclimatizing at a higher altitude while experiencing the scenic mountain road. Once in Thimphu, you will spend the day walking through the city’s main streets, visiting the weekend market if it coincides with your stay, and taking in the gentle pace of Bhutanese life. Your guide will conduct a thorough gear check and brief you on the trail conditions for the Druk Path Trek, ensuring you are fully prepared for the days ahead. This first day is intentionally low-key to help your body adjust to the altitude. The walk through Thimphu offers glimpses of traditional architecture and the daily rhythm of the capital, all while you become familiar with the terrain you will soon be crossing. Your guide will answer any questions about the route, the campsites, and the cultural landmarks you will encounter. Overnight in Thimphu.
