Bhutan visa information

Bhutan visa essentials for a seamless cultural journey.
Your journey to the Land of the Thunder Dragon begins with a simple, well-organized visa process. As a traveler with Bhutan Tour UK, your visa is arranged for you as part of your complete tour package, so you can focus on the experience ahead rather than paperwork. The process is straightforward and handled entirely by your licensed local guide and our team, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Bhutanese regulations.
To secure your visa, we require a clear scan of your passport, which must be valid for at least six months from your intended arrival date. Alongside this, your full travel itinerary and the payment of the Sustainable Development Fee are submitted to the Department of Immigration in Thimphu. This fee is a cornerstone of Bhutan’s high-value, low-impact tourism policy, directly funding healthcare, education, and the preservation of the monasteries, dzongs, and pristine landscapes you will visit.
Visa approval typically takes a few working days once your complete application is submitted. We recommend confirming your travel dates well in advance, especially if you plan to join one of our festival tours, as permits are processed sequentially and slots can fill quickly during peak seasons such as the Paro Tshechu or Thimphu Drubchen.
Upon approval, your e-visa is issued and sent to you electronically. Please note that this visa is tied to your specific tour dates and itinerary, so it cannot be used for independent travel. You will also need to present the visa approval letter upon arrival at Paro International Airport, where our guide will greet you and assist with the entry formalities.
For a smooth arrival, keep your passport and a printed or digital copy of your visa approval letter readily accessible. Our team will provide you with a detailed pre-departure checklist, including any recommended vaccinations and travel insurance advice, though your visa itself carries no additional health requirements beyond standard entry protocols.
Should your plans change, please inform us as early as possible. Visa fees and the Sustainable Development Fee are non-refundable once submitted, but we will work with you to adjust your itinerary dates when feasible, subject to Bhutanese immigration guidelines. Our goal is to make this administrative step as effortless as possible, leaving you free to anticipate the prayer flags, fortress walls, and warm hospitality that await.
